„I’m Craig Crowley, president of ICSD.
I’d like to update you about the Deaflympics.
First you will remember that ICSD awarded the 2013 Deaflympics to Athens. But in July of last year, the government pulled out. Since then, ICSD has been working hard to find a new host.
In my last video, I promised to keep you updated about the progress of Hungary 2013. ICSD now has the details of the budget for Hungary.
There have been big economic problems in Hungary. The government only pay half of the budget. So if we want to go to Hungary, deaf sports will have to pay the rest. The gap is 700 euros per athlete.
Before we give Hungary an answer, we want to know what the world of deaf sport thinks about this.
Hungary is not the only option. Bulgaria and Russia have already said they would like to host deaflympics next year. We are waiting to see if the governments of Bulgaria and Russia will support those plans.
And others have said they might be interested hosting the Deaflympics, but one year later, in 2014. There is very little time to prepare before next year.
We have said before that we will resolve all these matters before the end of May. ICSD will continue to update you in the time until then.
Looking ahead, Russia has said it is interested in hosting the Winter Deaflympics of 2015 in Sochi, the same place at the Winter Olympics. Again, we have asked for a sign of government support.
Finally, I am very happy to say that all our world championship events for the year ahead are in good shape. Thank you to all of our hosts for their good work.
